Skin types & their needs

Taking care of our skin is very important and choosing the right products is essential to look and feel good.  But before we choose the products and the ingredients that are best for us, we must first identify our skin type.

There are five basic skin types, normal, dry, combination, oily and sensitive.

Normal skin type:
It is smooth, non-porous, elastic, hydrated, bright with matte finish.
You need: a soft lotion without alcohol to clean the face.
Choose a soft, thin moisturizer for morning and night.
Exfoliate once a week and use a face mask with vitamins.

Dry skin type:
Usually, it has a dull or gray appearance due to the dehydration. It loses its elasticity and can be extremely sensitive to the sun and weather. After daily washing creates a feeling of pulling.
You need: Clean the skin with a lotion without alcohol.
Use a serum before moisturizing to add extra hydration. Choose a rich cream with vitamins and make a rich and hydrating mask once a week.
Always apply a night cream to keep hydration level up during the night.

Combination skin type:
It is normal skin prone to oiliness in T-zone (forehead, nose, chin).
Needs: Select a mild soap to clean your face with moisturizing factors to avoid dryness in T-zone.
Clean only the T-zone with a mild lotion or toner.
Use cream for normal to dry skin areas but not in the zone T. For this choose a moisturizing serum.
Usee a face mask once a week.

Oily skin type:
It has large pores, shows shine, blackheads and pimples. Oily skin is rough in texture and has a yellowish tint.
Needs: A good face wash for cleaning and a scrub with fine grains to exfoliate at least twice a week. Use a light toner after washing the face.
Use a light moisturizer or a serum in a gel form.

Sensitive skin type:
It is thin with small pores, gets easily irritated and presents redness and rashes while having allergic reactions to cosmetics. Affected by weather conditions (cold, sun, wind).
Needs: few and specialized cosmetics for sensitive skin. The more you use the more likely you irritate your skin. A light moisturizer and a sunscreen are enough for a sensitive skin.
Do not exfoliate with harsh products.

  1. I have such combination skin I swear I constantly have to change the products I'm using! At the moment though I'm really liking the Effaclar range from La Roche Posay to help combat shine and excess oil! I really like your blog :) Do you want to follow each other on Bloglovin' so we can keep up with each others' posts?

  2. i have oily skin and i have to agree with using a toner after washing. i notice so much makeup gets left behind and i wouldn't notice unless i use a clean cotton pad with a toner for a deeper clean. thank you so much for sharing!!

    1. Oily skin needs extra attention, but as a good friend of mine says, if you have oily skin you are less prone to dehydration so you'll have less wrinkles and fine lines! Haha thanks love!! :)
